AWEIL – Police in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State have arrested a woman accused of cutting off her husband’s genitals while asleep in Aweil East, following a quarrel between the couple.
The victim has been identified as Mager Mareng, popularly known as Ayolo.
Mareng reportedly woke up at night and found himself in severe pain before discovering that his wife was cutting off his penis and testicles, but it was too late.
Paul Kuch, the information director for Aweil East County, said in an interview with Nairobi-based Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the incident occurred in Peth Lou Boma, Mangok Lou Payam.
“The incident happened on Friday. A woman attempted to cut off her husband’s private parts. Fortunately, the man survived and is currently receiving treatment at Madhol Hospital,” Kuch said, while confirming that the suspect, Adhel Garang, is in police custody.
The victim, Magar Marengdit, is a certified nurse and serves as the officer-in-charge of the Peth Lou Primary Health Care Unit. He is currently receiving urgent medical care at Madhol Hospital, where doctors are working tirelessly to save his injured organ.
Police have confirmed that the suspect is in custody as investigations continue to determine the motive behind the attack.
