Civil society welcomes Jonglei-Pibor peace dialogue

by Juba Witness

BOR – Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) has welcomed ongoing inter-communal peace dialogue between Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area, which saw the exchange abducted women and children from both sides.

For the next three days, leaders and citizens from the two regions are meeting face to face to tackle the issues driving insecurity such as child abduction, cattle raiding and road ambushes.

County commissioners, paramount chiefs, women leaders and youth representatives from all eleven counties will work toward lasting stability for their communities in an inclusive conference.

JCSN Chairperson Bol Deng Bol stressed the importance of dialogue as a mean to curb the protracted and chronic violence including abductions, revenge, road ambushes and hate speech between Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) communities.

“We welcome and appreciate the ongoing peace conference in Bor town, Jonglei State which yesterday saw exchange of abducted women and children,” Deng, the Executive Director of INTREPID-South Sudan, said.

“Our people in both regions have, for far too long, endured suffering from all fronts; not only from abductions and revenge killings, but also suffering emanating from treatable diseases, gender-based sexual violence, hunger, child abuse, negative cultural norms and weak justice systems.”

He further urged the forum to focus on addressing the chronic impunity that has shredded trust and justice systems. Deng also called for prioritized service delivery to the people.
