25th session: Prosecution concludes first witness’ testimony

by Juba Witness

JUBA – The prosecution team concluded the first witness testimony in the trial of eight SPLM/A-IO officials, after the witness presented the last part of the SSPDF report and more video clips as evidence.

Major Peter Malual Deng disclosed detailed the full cost of the Nasir fighting, including the death of 257 soldiers and the loss of 58 million US dollars in military equipment and vehicles.

Four video clips were displayed; one showing execution of wounded soldiers, another of White Army displaying seized equipment, and two others showing the collection and burial of remains in mass grave after the army recaptured Nasir in April.

Citing the report, he alleges that SPLA-IO’s detained military chief Gen. Gabriel Duop Lam, and other fugitive security officials knew about the mobilization and planned attack on SSPDF barges but failed to inform Bilpam about it.

He said the investigation committee found that Dr. Riek Machar, as the leader of SPLM/A-IO, failed to control his forces and protect hostages, and did not form a committee to investigate and hold to account those responsible.

The 25th session was then adjourned to Friday, November 28, where the defense team will start cross-examination of the prosecution witness.
