JUBA – At least five people were killed and an unspecified number was wounded during fierce inter-communal fighting at the Juba Internally Displaced Persons Camp 3 along the Juba – Yei Road.
The violence fought with spears, knives, machetes and stones, erupted early on Wednesday near the cemetery west of the camp, when one group was ambushed by the other.
Three people were found dead in one occasion and two other bodies were also discovered. Police was not present to separate the fighting.
The fighting first started on Tuesday, when two unruly gang groups clashed, prompting the camp leadership to call the police. When security officers arrived, they reportedly opened fire on a group that attempted to attack them.
According to Juba IDPs camp 3 residents, this resulted in the shooting dead of one man and the wounding of another. Calm has reportedly returned following the fighting.
