JUBA — Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gideon Timothewos jetted to Juba on Wednesday for high-level talks with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, in a visit said to discuss longstanding partnership between South Sudan and Ethiopia.

President Kiir’s office said in a statement discussion with Dr. Timothewos focused on strengthening the strategic and historic ties between Juba and Addis Ababa, relations that are anchored in shared struggles and mutual sacrifices.

He emphasized that the enduring friendship between the two countries is crucial not only for bilateral relations but also for peace, stability, and prosperity in the wider region.

The Ethiopian foreign minister said the talks also explored ways of enhancing economic cooperation, with both sides expressing commitment to expanding trade, investment, and development projects for mutual benefit.

South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Monday Semaya Kumba, confirmed that Dr. Timothewos delivered a special message from Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to President Kiir. He said the message addressed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
