JUBA – The Commissioner of Mayendit County in Unity State has condemned the killing of three civilians who were traveling to Mayendit along a river route in neighboring Maper, Lakes State, describing the incident as a barbaric and unacceptable act of violence.

Commissioner Hon. John Matip Gatluok expressed “sorrow and outrage over the attack, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians” identified as Nyamal Riang Chan, a graduate; Nyabuok Manyang, also a graduate; and Nyakuong, an unborn child.

Gatluok said the people of Mayendit County were shocked and saddened by the incident, noting that such violence against civilians undermines peace and coexistence among communities.

He called for an immediate investigation and urged the authorities in Maper to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.

“This senseless act of violence is unacceptable and demands urgent attention,” the statement read, adding that justice for the victims and their families is essential to prevent further bloodshed.

Hon. Galuok also extended appreciation to the government and people of Maper for their reported efforts in rescuing other civilians who survived the attack. He said prompt action helped prevent further loss of life and should be encouraged as communities work together to promote peace.

The commissioner appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through peaceful means, stressing the need for cooperation between neighboring counties and states to ensure the safety of civilians, particularly those traveling along river routes.
