JUBA – A youth-led nonviolent social movement named Sout Al Shaab was launched in Juba on Saturday, seeking to transition South Sudanese from a culture of violence to peace.
The group aims to change what it says is a negative culture of resolving issues through violence and contribute to social change through peacebuilding initiatives.
Civil Society activist Bol Deng Bol describes Sout Al Shaab as a platform for civic and policy dialogue on issues of governance and service delivery.
“Sout Al Shaab is a South Sudanese youth-led, non-violent, non-profit social movement established to influence policies, decision-making, mobilise and organise citizens for common action,” he told the media.
Deng added that the movement envisions an informed citizenry, one that acts as agents of social, economic, and political transformation for sustainable peace.
“Sout Al Shaab shall contribute in nation-building through non-violent, national, and grassroots engagement to promote voices, lead societal change, address injustices, and advocate for equal rights on social, political, and economic life in South Sudan.”
