JUBA – The defense team began cross-examination of the first prosecution witness in the trial of eight SPLM-IO officials on Friday, challenging him to justify certain areas of the SSPDF report.

Advocate Kur Lual Kur asked Maj. Peter Malual Deng if members of the investigation committee visited the scene of the attack in Nasir. He answered that they did not visit and rely on witness and survivors’ testimony.

Kur also challenged Major Peter Malual Deng to prove that any of the eight accused gave directives to the alleged White Army leader to kill General David Majur. The witness answered that he has no evidence linking the accused to the death of Majur.

The defense inquired if the committee took statements from current and former Chief of Defense Forces, former Upper Nile governor and top state security officials during the investigation – to which he said negative.

Malual was also asked to provide proof of Aqwelek integration into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), identify who ordered the killing of Gen. David Majur, and he produced a presidential decree for the integration of 12 Agwelek officers.

The 26th session was then adjourned to Monday, 1st December 2025, where defense will continue with the cross-examination.
