JUBA – President Salva Kiir reappointed Prof. Dr. James Wani Igga as Vice President for Economic Cluster, relieved four ministers and Central Equatoria governor in a major reshuffle on Monday evening.

Igga replaces Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel – the once powerful figure deemed to be potential successor to President Kiir – but who was disgracefully fired as vice president, removed from the SPLM party’s second most senior leadership role, stripped of his military ranks and dismissed from the National Security Service (NSS).

Kir also relieved long-serving Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth and appointed him Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, replacing Joseph Geng Akech, who was dismissed.

Former Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny was named the Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Mabior Garang de Mabior was appointed Minister of Environment, replacing Josephine Napon, who was relieved. Former SPLM Secretary-General Peter Lam Both was appointed Minister of Roads and Bridges, in the place of relieved Simon Mijok Mijak.

Kiir then removed Central Equatoria Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel and reappointed Emmanuel Adil Anthony to the role. The Inspector General of Police Abraham Manyuat was relieved and replaced by Said Chawul Lom, who returned to the position.

Further, Monica Achol Aguek was reinstated as a Grade 1 Ambassador and appointed Presidential Envoy to the Middle East.
