BENTIU – Unity State’s legendary comedian Tuol Nyakang, whose real name is John Gatpan Chuol, died in Koch County on Wednesday morning, October 29, after being swarmed and stung by bees, according to local sources.
Tuol died while receiving treatment at a health facility run by Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC) in Rier payam, social media blog, Naam Studio, reported.
The bees were reportedly provoked from the forest by unclear circumstances when they swarmed to the town, stinging people at random, including Tuol.
Also known as Wal-Wal Kuehkoy, Tuol who was in his late 60th, rose to prominence by telling jokes at marketplaces, sometimes garnering huge crowds in different parts of Unity State.
Through his wits and humor told in his native Nuer language, Tuol would joke about both the good and the difficult stuff, thereby showing his audience the need to stay positive in bad situations in a region plundered by wars and disasters.
