RUMBEK—The Lakes State Minister of Education Ministry officially published the 2024-2025 South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) examination results on Friday, October 3, as 70 percent of the 1,949 students passed.

Out of the 1,949 candidates who took the exams (including 1,349 males and 600 females), around 1,380 candidates (974 males and 406 females) passed with a 70% pass rate.

This is significant in comparison to last year’s poor performance, in which only 980 candidates passed out of the 2270 that took the exams, while 1290 failed. The pass rate for that year was 42%.

State Minister of General Education & Instructions Nelson Makoi Makur said Senior Four students have impressively improved in this year’s exam performance, attributing it to hard work, dedication, and perseverance from students and teachers.

Females’ performance has also improved, with five female candidates dominating the top five best-performing candidates in the state.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the candidates who took part in the examinations. Your hard work, commitment, and determination have been demonstrated in today’s results, and you should be proud of your accomplishments,” Makur said.

“This is just the beginning of an exciting journey ahead, filled with opportunities for further education and personal growth. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to H.E. Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor, Governor of Lakes State, for prioritizing education and providing security, peace, and stability in Lakes State.”

Makur further commended teachers and educational staff for their tireless support and guidance for the students throughout their academic journey.

“Your unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds is truly commendable, and your contributions have played a significant role in shaping the success of the candidates.”

He encouraged all children to go to school, adding the state government will make it possible and affordable for them to study.

“We don’t block anybody, so long as these citizens are eager to pursue their education. We give them the opportunity to try their best so that they can be able now to sit for the secondary education. So, for us as the government, we have no limitation. We just opened opportunity to the citizens of this state,” he said.

“That’s why you see people with low academic quality and people with high academic quality will join public schools to pursue the academic education.”

The results publication in Lakes comes two months after the official results announcement in Juba. The long delay in releasing results in more remote locations where there is no Digitel network has raised concerns.

Parliament’s Standing Specialized Committee on General Education and Instruction previously sought answers from the Ministry of Education over reports that some Senior Four students in remote areas are still unable to access their results.

Committee Deputy Chairperson Caguor Adong Manyang said results should be delivered directly to schools in those regions to ensure all learners have equal access.

“Normally before this network, what used to happen is that results used to be taken to the schools, whether those schools are in the towns or remote areas,” Adong said.

“So if the Digitel network is now helping those in big towns to access their results simply, then the ministry must make sure that the results are taken to those areas that are very remote, rural areas in particular.”
