JUBA – The former vice chancellor at the University of Juba, Professor John Akech is appealing for the change of court venue in the court proceedings against SPLM/A-IO officials from Freedom Hall to a suburban area in the capital.
Akech – who has returned to teaching at the university following the end of his tenure at the National Communication Authority – said the proximity of the courthouse to the campus, major roads and markets – has brought traffic and businesses to a standstill.
“A central location and cross point of traffic from and to all directions of Juba city as the venue to conduct the court proceedings against First Vice President and SPLM-IO leaders, is negatively impacting the economic, social, environmental, and security life of citizens of Juba,” Akech said in a statement on Facebook.
“It is making it difficult to access places of work, business, and services; following blocking of key traffic crossing points. In addition, the University’s of Juba, both students and staff are unable to access the campus for teaching, working, or attending lectures or exams.”
Akech calls on the judicial committee who decided the court venue to reconsider relocating it to “peripheral locations of Juba such New Site or Luri, away from the centre of Juba city.”
