Government vows to reclaim Juba’s encroached, blocked roads to ease jams

JUBA – JUBA – The Central Equatoria government and the national roads ministry have announced plans to reclaim encroached roadsides urges Juba residents to cooperate with the impending exercise.

CES governor Rabi Mujung and a delegation from relevant government agencies found massive encroachment on roadsides and even complete blockage of roads during an assessment in Juba streets on Saturday, 23rd August 2025.

The inspecting delegation also toured sections of roads around Juba International Airport (JIA) ahead of planned reconstruction and what the government calls beautification works.

The assessment sought to determine the level of road encroachment, drainage, security, and accessibility.

CES Minister of Roads and Bridges Hon. Clement Maring Samuel said “alternative access routes will be opened to ease congestion and address drainage problems.”

Meanwhile, ‎David Morbe, Central Equatoria State Minister of Lands, Housing and Public Utilities, said “roads illegally occupied will be reclaimed and urged affected communities to cooperate.”

Eng. John Chol, Undersecretary in the National Ministry of Roads and Bridges, further said several road reserves, initially designed to be 20 meters wide, “have been encroached upon.” He stressed the need to reclaim these spaces and install proper drainage systems.
