KUAJOK – Warrap Governor Bol Wek Agoth launched a tree planting exercise facilitated by an environmental conservation organization, at the state Ministry of Agriculture premises, on Thursday.
The program is being implemented in collaboration with Natural Planters for Generations organization under the theme “plant a tree, save life.”
The Acting Minister of Agriculture and her Director General, explained that the tree planting exercise is consistent with a national program which aims to plant one hundred million trees in South Sudan and which commits Warrap State to plant at least ten million trees.
“Our people need to protect themselves from climate change and planting trees is a sanctified mitigation measure.” Agoth said.
The Governor narrated that planting different variety of trees unlocks commercial potential for the state and its people and also caters for nutritional needs of our communities.
Agoth further also pledged large scale agriculture through farm mechanization, supporting farmers’ unions and enabling access to micro-finances as a means of lifting the people of Warrap State from poverty.
FAO representative in Warrap, Madam Rose, expressed her organization’s commitment to continue supporting the State.
“We cannot fight climate change without fighting deforestation and we will commit to disseminate information to institutions and schools across Warrap State in support of tree planting.” She concluded.
