10-year-old girl raped by 8 men in Lakes State

YIROL – Police in Lakes State have arrested eight men accused of gang raping a 10-year-old girl in Aluakluak Payam, Yirol West County.

Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. James Monday Enoka said the girl was attacked on 14 August and the suspects are now in custody at Yirol West police station.

He said investigations are ongoing and the case will be referred to court once completed.

“This question of sexual violence cannot be entertained in the country, so the police is working hard to combat this type of crime,” Enoka said, as reported by United Nations Radio Miraya.

Incidents of sexual and gender-based violence are commonly reported in different parts of South Sudan. An anti-GBV and Family Law bills seeking to address the situation are stuck in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
