3 ministers, aid officials in Jonglei to assess flooding, cholera situation

BOR, JONGLEI STATE – A national government delegation comprising several ministers and lawmakers arrived in Jonglei State on Monday to meet local authorities and assess flooding and cholera situation.

The visiting officials include Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Albino Akol Atak, Health Minister Sarah Cleto Rial, Youth Minister Joseph Geng Akech.

Others are UN Humanitarian Coordinator Anita Kiki Gbeho, Chair of TNLA Committee on Humanitarian and Human Rights Gen. Stephen K. Goch, and Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Hon. Mary Akech Bior.

Jonglei Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok said the visit of the high level delegation was to assess communities at risk of flooding and potential cholera outbreaks, as well as to strengthen coordination for an effective humanitarian response. 

“The delegation engaged with local authorities and community leaders, and conducted an inspection of flood-prone and areas Internally Displaced Persons (IDps) sites,” Gai’s office said.
