LEER, Unity State – Three crew members flying a cargo plane transporting humanitarian food supplies to southern Unity State were killed when the aircraft crashed in at a remote village in Leer County, at dawn on Tuesday morning.
Local authorities reported that the plane went down as it approached the airstrip in Rubchiay village at 08:30AM. County officials have dispatched a fact-finding team to the crash site to determine the cause.
The plane, chartered by Samaritan’s Purse, had departed Juba earlier in the day carrying food assistance for communities affected by flooding in southern Unity State.
Leer County Executive Director Kueth Latjor said the cause of the disaster is not yet confirmed, adding that a team heading to the site was encountering mobility challenges due to widespread flooding.
