JUBA – President Salva Kiir has directed new Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) Governor Yeni Samuel Costa to swiftly find a sustainable solution to the liquidity crisis facing the country.
The country continues to face persistent liquidity challenges and a weakened South Sudanese Pound (SSP) – a situation blamed on deeper structural problems in fiscal and monetary management. Some commercial banks have recently limited withdrawal to between 50,000SSP to 100,000SSP.
Addressing his swearing in ceremony today, Kiir urges the BoSS leadership to ensure the bank live up to its mandate of maintaining price stability and promoting a healthy domestic economy.
President Kiir also swore in the Chairperson and members of the Board of National Communication Authority, and urged him the agency’s management to ensure it provides reliable and accessible communication services across the country.
Costa was appointed on November 12, 2025, to replace Dr. Addis Ababa Othow.
President Kiir has now sacked more than 37 senior state officials, including vice-presidents, a chief justice, ministers, and army generals, in less than one year.
