University graduate beaten to death by SSPDF soldiers in Juba

JUBA – A university graduate passed away on Friday night after he was beaten to coma by South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldiers at Tongpiny residential area in Juba.

Jacob Paul Mathiang, who graduated with Engineering degree from the University of Juba in 2022 was lynched by the soldiers at noon on Thursday under unclear circumstances.

“After beating him to half dead with serious injury on the head, the same soldiers where ordered by their Cammander to take him to Hospital,” said a witness, Bol Dhoruai.

He added that the surgery on the broken skull couldn’t rescue the Mathiang due internal bleeding. He died on Friday night from the severe injuries.

“The late graduated in November 2022 From University of Juba with Honors Barchelor degree in Civil engineering with excellent class and was after employed at Directorate of Engineering and construction management within University.”

Public anger has since been brewing on social media, with many demanding explanations and justice for the killing.

It is not clear if the victim committed any offence or not, and whether anyone was arrested for his death.
