JUBA – South Sudan’s Juba International Airport successfully conducted its first ever nighttime flight with Air Congo flying DRC football fans to Kinshasa, in what the aviation agency termed a historic advancement.

South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) said an Air Congo Boeing 737 departed Juba at 10:15 PM, en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking the airport’s inaugural night-time takeoff.

“This milestone was made possible by the recent completion of critical infrastructure upgrades, including marked runways and newly installed runway lighting systems,” it said.

It added that the inaugural nightime flight was made successful by the installation of visual guidance needed during low visibility, night-time operations, and adverse weather conditions, ensuring safe and efficient takeoffs, landings, and ground movements.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication and commitment of South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) and Juba International Airport.”

“It represents a major leap forward in establishing JIA as a fully operational international airport, capable of supporting both day and night operations.”
