SSNBS re-exports aflatoxin-contaminated maize to Uganda

NIMULE – South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has seized and re-exported to Uganda seven trucks of maize flour that were found to have been contaminated by dangerous chemicals.

The standards agency said a laboratory tests confirmed safety risks, prompting the decision to turn back the food consignments.

“Five consignments exceeded permissible aflatoxin levels, while two were found to contain live insects,” it said in a statement.

SSNBS said the re-exportation underscores its ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure that only safe, quality food and non-food products are allowed to enter or exit the Republic of South Sudan.
