JUBA — President Salva Kiir on Monday issued a series of presidential decrees removing and appointing senior officials across the national government, state leadership, and security institutions, in a move that notably saw the removal of Interior Minister Angelina Teny.
In the decrees read on state television, President Kiir relieved Angelina Teny of her position as Minister of Interior and appointed Aleu Ayieny Aleu as her replacement. The Interior Ministry oversees internal security, law enforcement, immigration, and civil administration, making the change one of the most significant in the latest reshuffle.
The presidential directives also affected several other key ministries. James Hoth Mai was relieved of his duties as Minister of Labour and replaced by Anthony Lino Makana, while Dak Doup Bichiok was removed as Minister of Public Service and Human Resources Development and succeeded by Ezekial Lol Gatkuoth.
In the Ministry of Culture, Museums and National Heritage, Nadia Arop Dudi was relieved and Sarah Nyanath Elijiah Yong appointed.
At the state level, President Kiir removed Rin Tueny Mabor as Governor of Lakes State, appointing Madhang Majok as his successor. In Upper Nile State, Deng Joh Angok was relieved of his position as Deputy Governor and replaced by Deng Akuei Kak.
Changes were also made within the security sector, where Thoi Chany Reat was removed as Director General of the General Intelligence Bureau (GIB) of the National Security Service. He was replaced by Abraham Keat Bichok.
No official reasons were provided for the changes, which are in line with the president’s constitutional powers. The decrees take effect immediately.
