JUBA – Veteran South Sudanese journalist and host of Eye Radio’s flagship Dawn program, Emmanuel Joseph Akile, passed away on 30th December following a brief illness, the broadcaster has confirmed.
In a statement, Eye Radio said it was devastated by the passing of its journalist, who died on Tuesday at Gudele Hospital in Juba after a brief two-day hospitalization.
According to the statement, Akile had just begun his Christmas leave days recently when he fell ill and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Gudele Hospital.
“Akile was a resourceful journalist and a dedicated colleague whose contribution to the media landscape in South Sudan is immeasurable,” said Eye Radio management in a statement.
Akile had served as the voice of Eye Radio’s Dawn Show since 2016. He is known for his professionalism and coverage of the South Sudan peace talks in Addis Ababa and, most recently, the Tumaini Initiative in Nairobi.
His death has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity, with colleagues and listeners mourning the loss of a journalist whose voice helped shape national conversations for nearly a decade.
