JUBA – The trial of eight SPLM/A-IO officials, including suspended First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, continued on Monday with further cross-examination of the first prosecution witness on evidence of the case.
Defense lawyer Kur Lual Kur asked Maj. Peter Malual Deng to explain whether ceasefire monitors were consulted in the process of force transfer and resolution of security-related disputes among parties.
When asked if the investigation committee obtained audio recording of an alleged phone meeting between Machar and Nasir County leadership, Deng said the audio was not extracted.
The defense also sought evidence of the alleged guarantees of successful evacuation that Machar provided. The witness said such guarantees were given during a meeting attended by top officials and observers.
The defense also asked the witness to confirm that seven SPLA-IO officers were killed with Gen. David Majur during the last evacuation attempt, which he validated, although he said their identities were not established.
The session was then adjourned to Friday, 5th December 2025.
