JUBA – The 17th session of the Special Court trying eight SPLM/A-IO officials was held on Monday with further cross-examination of the lead investigator and the prosecution’s submission of a written response to a previous application by the defense team.
During the hearing, defense lawyers asked questions about measures taken to protect classified information during the transfer of phones and laptop belonging to a senior official to a private foreign company.
They also asked for evidence of alleged cash transfer by the First and Second accused to finance the White Army in Nasir. The investigator was also asked to explain how the first accused sent $30,000 to Nasir by plane through Juba International Airport, when the law only permits the transfer of $10,000.
In response, he said the alleged cash transfer was disclosed by a witness testimony and there was no need to question the airport authorities.
Meanwhile, The prosecution has submitted a written response to an application filed by the defense on 22nd October 2025 for application for additional food, medication and sunlight for some of the accused persons.
Prosecution member Advocate Ajo Noel Igele did not disclose the document’s content to the court.
Defense lawyer Gery Raimondo acknowledges the response and reiterates that food and medication are a fundamental right of the political detainees, in accordance with the transitional constitution and International Covenant on Civil and People’s Rights.
The three-judge panel will deliver a verdict on the application in the next session. Presiding judge Dr. James Alala Deng then adjourned the session to Wednesday.
