BOR – The director of civil society group Intrepid South Sudan, has commended Jonglei government’s decision to mitigate a two-year deadly conflict between Hol community of Duk County and Ayual of Twic East.
In a statement, Bol Deng Bol said it is urgent that the government intervenes to stop the unnecessary loss of lives.
“I would like to welcome the decision of the State Government to finally accept to initiate a peaceful settlement of the 2-year long deadly conflict between Hol of Duk County and Ayual of Twic East County,” Deng said.
He added that INTREPID South Sudan has been pushing the government to mediate and communities to abandon violence, but in vain.
“Even worse, the conflict escalated by involving Adhiok of Twic East. It is better late than never.”
“We would also like to urge the two communities to abide by the modalities agreed upon and pursue this path without deviation.”
The activist added that the Government should, without fail, fulfil its obligations and natural responsibility to safeguard lives and properties as well as maintain peaceful coexistence amongst the communities.
