‎JUBA – Community leaders from Morobo County in Central Equatoria urged Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel to address challenges facing the area, including renewed violence between the army and SPLA-IO forces that has caused fear and displacement.

The community delegation made the appeal in a visit to Mujung on Friday, August 8 reportedly to congratulate him on his appointment.

Led by Zacharia Michael, Chairperson of the Lugbara, Keliko, and Kakwa Community (LKKC), the team outlined challenges including insecurity in Morobo County, poor road infrastructure, and inadequate health and education services.

‎‎”Morobo is facing numerous challenges. Recently, it has been plagued by killings, displacement, rape, attacks, and the breakdown of social cohesion,” read partly a position paper of the community.

They called for urgent interventions to restore security, uphold law and order, rehabilitate the Juba–Yei–Kaya road, foster dialogue, and improve basic services.

Women’s representative, Joyce Dudu, expressed deep concern over the impact of insecurity on daily life. “Women and children are unable to sleep. People cannot cultivate, despite Morobo being an agrarian county and a known food basket,” she lamented.

‎According to his office, Governor Mujung noted several concerns and pledged to address some of them, further underscoring the need for a united approach in resolving some of the issues.

‎”The priorities of our state government are peace, security, and unity. I want you to be part of the efforts to realize these key priorities,” Governor Mujung stated.

The SPLA-IO has in recent weeks stepped up its offensive against government troops stationed at posts in Morobo, Kajo-Keji and Yei counties.
