JUBA – Four football officials have announced their candidacy for president of South Sudan Football Federation including incumbent Augustino Madout Parek, ahead of the August 15 elections.
The contenders challenging Parek – in one of the young federation’s most contentious elections – include Munuki FC president Kamal John, Teng Deng, and former president Francis Amin Michael.
The incumbent submitted his credential to football authority on July 20 as he seeks a second term after what appears to be a successful tenure that saw the launch of South Sudan Premier League.
Mr. Parek was elected the new head of SSFF in July 2021 during the association’s general elections. Meanwhile, six candidates are contesting for the position of Vice President.
The electoral committee said candidates seeking positions in the football governing body must meet certain illegibility requirements.
Candidates must be South Sudanese nationals, a permanent residents of South Sudan, holders a bachelor’s degree with four years of football experience, and not convicted of any crime or subjected to disciplinary measures by the football ethics committee.
