South Sudan’s foreign minister Amb. Monday Semaya travelled to the United States on Saturday for bilateral visit, more than a week after the country took in Washington’s deportees.

In a statement published only a day after his departure, the foreign ministry said Minister Kumba had left for Washington an official visit.

The trip will focus on comprehensive bilateral discussions with overall objective of strengthening the bilateral ties between South Sudan and the US in different fields of cooperation, the statement said.

Last week, Juba confirmed that it recieved eight deportees with criminal history from the United States on July 5th.

In a press statement, the foreign ministry said Juba was ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the eight men, one of whom is a South Sudanese national.

It said they were accepted in the interest of bilateral engagement for better diplomatic relations with Washington.
